The rule

ABJJF India follows the World Anti-Doping Code and the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) of India. Any athlete competing at an ABJJF-sanctioned event is bound by them.

The prohibited list is the WADA Prohibited List, as updated each year. We do not maintain a separate one. If it is banned by WADA, it is banned at our events.

It is your responsibility

Athletes are responsible for what is in their bodies. A supplement bought over the counter can contain a banned substance without saying so on the label. “I did not know” is not a defence under the Code, and we cannot make it one.

If you need a prohibited substance for a genuine medical condition, apply to NADA for a Therapeutic Use Exemption before you compete, not after you are tested.

Testing

• Testing at ABJJF events is conducted by NADA under their procedures — we do not test athletes ourselves.
• Refusing a test, or tampering with a sample, is treated the same as a positive result.

Consequences

Sanctions follow the WADA Code and NADA’s rules. In addition, an athlete sanctioned for a doping violation forfeits results, medals and national ranking points from the event in question, and their federation record shows the sanction for its duration.

Fair play, beyond doping

• Deliberately competing in a division you are not eligible for — misstating your belt rank, age or weight — is cheating, and is treated as such.
• Deliberately injuring an opponent, or applying a submission after a tap, means disqualification and may mean a ban.
• Abusing referees or officials means disqualification.
