Children train jiu-jitsu because their parents trust us with them. That trust is the most serious thing this federation holds. This policy says what we do about it.

Reporting a concern — read this first

If you are worried about the safety or welfare of a child in connection with ABJJF India, any affiliated academy, or any of our events, write to grievances@abjjfi.com (Ms. Karneet Kaur). Concerns are read by a named person, not a queue. You do not need proof, and you do not need to be certain — tell us what you saw.

If a child is in immediate danger, call the police (100) or Childline India (1098) first. Then tell us.

We will not retaliate against anyone who raises a concern in good faith, and we will not tell the person you are concerned about that you were the one who raised it.

Guardian consent — and how the website enforces it

This is not a promise we ask you to take on trust. It is built into the platform, and it is how the code actually behaves today:

• A child under 18 cannot create an account. The website refuses a date of birth under 18 and tells them to ask a guardian.
• A child is registered only from a guardian’s own account, and their profile is permanently attached to that guardian.
• A GUARDIAN MUST VERIFY THEIR OWN IDENTITY before they can verify a child. A child’s registration is only as trustworthy as the adult behind it, and the law requires consent for a child’s data to be verifiable — an unchecked stranger asserting they are a parent is not that. The guardian proves who they are once; the person who then sends us a child’s birth certificate is someone we have actually checked.
• A child’s profile has no login. There is no password, and no way to sign in as a child.
• A child’s profile is never shown publicly.
• Only their own guardian can view, change or delete it. Another guardian cannot reach it even if they know its address.
• We hold a child’s name, date of birth, academy and claimed belt. We do not ask for their email or phone number.
• We contact the guardian, never the child. We do not send marketing to minors.
• A guardian can delete their child’s record themselves, at any time, without asking us.

Coaches and officials

• Coaches and officials working with minors at ABJJF events must be background-checked before they do so.
• One-to-one coaching of a minor out of sight of others is not permitted at our events.
• Photography and video of minors at our events requires guardian consent, and we will remove any image on a guardian’s request, no questions asked.
• Private contact between a coach and a minor athlete outside training — messaging, social media, meeting alone — is not acceptable and is grounds for removal.

What happens when we receive a report

• We acknowledge it within 48 hours.
• We take immediate protective steps — which may include suspending a person from ABJJF activity — while we look into it, and doing so is not a finding of guilt.
• Where the law requires it, we report to the police or child welfare authorities. We will not handle a criminal matter quietly in-house.
• We tell the person who raised the concern what the outcome was, as far as we are permitted to.

Honesty about where we are
